Scene Analysis

Dr. Strangelove - Doomsday Machine This scene is built around the reveal of the Doomsday machine and its reception amongst America’s most powerful military and foreign authorities. The whole scene is dimly lit with hard lighting. -Skip first <7 seconds- -7 Seconds The scene opens up with moderately fast dynamic camera movement on a dolly. The camera quickly approaches Alexi de Sadesky as he is distressed. General Buck gets out of his seat and walks to Alexi prompting the camera movement to slow down, once Buck comes to a distance at which he will hold a conversation with Alexi the camera movement stops. The characters are not at eye level but they are composed against each other like polar opposites. -23 Seconds Alexi walks in the camera's direction and the camera moves with him keeping a consistent distance (no need to refocus). General Buck follows two paces behind, he looks smaller in the image and is essentially trying to keep up with Alexi which is symbolic...

Sounds

The texture of a sound can be manipulated in multiple ways. One of the most prominent manipulated sounds is the sound of the subway, from above ground. The texture of the sound of the subway underground is crisp and not interfered with by anything however it is accompanied with the culmination of sounds coming from all the subway riders and the announcer. From above ground the texture of the sound of the subway is muffled by the concrete and asphalt which is able to keep almost the entire sound of the subway underground except for that high pitch whine the train makes when it stops and starts. I like this sound most in the morning because the sound of train which comes off like it's trying so hard to move thousands of pounds of human flesh whereas in my case my I'm still in bed so it makes me feel kinda bad but it truly pressures me to get up out of bed every morning. The sound of my alarm clock is something my brain registers as something I can just set again for another 40 mi...

Artist Statement

Hi my name is Dylan Owen and I was born in Seattle in 1998. I moved to Westchester and attended Irvington High School before I inevitably graduated and came here to Hunter College. I visit England every summer to see my grandparents and cousins. My first years working with film were maybe best summed up with the word desperate. Nobody in my town asked anybody to jump on board and help them with projects so whatever experience I acquired was of my own accord. If I was looking to make something it was only gonna happen if I tackled it all myself, no one was just gonna hand me credit on a project. The year after I graduated my school raised a multi million dollar bond to build a new track/field and my friend and I were asked to record the whole construction process in a time-lapse manner in order to get the community excited about the new amenities coming to the school. This was my first time being approached for anything remotely psuedo-professional. We were given money for a GoPro a...
